Practice management software

Software that coordinates administrative and financial work around care — scheduling, patient coordination, billing queues, and staff access.

Definition

Practice management software (PMS) is the operating layer for clinic logistics: appointments, patient records handoffs, billing worklists, roles, and often patient self-service. It is related to, but not the same as, an electronic health record that centers clinical documentation.

For multi-provider therapy practices, the useful test is whether handoffs keep context attached — from booking to note to invoice — without re-keying patient details in a second system.

Educational definition for operators evaluating therapy practice software. Not legal, compliance, billing, or clinical advice.
