Practice operations

Waitlist

A queue of demand for appointments that cannot yet be placed on the calendar, used to fill openings when cancellations occur.

Definition

Waitlists convert cancellations into filled capacity when staff can see who wants which clinician, time window, or location. They are most effective when tied to the same scheduling system of record.

Without a waitlist, openings often remain empty while demand lives in email threads.
